Zippigadoola, magicaboola, bibbity-bobbity-boo!
Who: Lea and Jendayi
Where: An open area on the outskirts of the city
When: a couple days after the effects of the April Fools event wear off
What: Magic practice!
Warnings: Fluff and sweetness?
Thus, he'd brought her out to the outskirts, away from any buildings or things that might be damaged (just in case). He'd even brought a picnic lunch for them to eat when they felt like taking a break. He wanted to make this as fun as possible, because he couldn't make it easy. At least not too easy. The point was to help her learn and grow magically, and making it too easy for her would just be a detriment to that goal.
The spot he'd chosen was a little ways from the nearest gate, so it was a it of a walk, but the locale was still pleasant enough. A grassy part of the Southwest Sector, with patches of bare dirt and a few sparse trees nearby. Probably born from seeds that somehow escaped from the farms in the distance, as the blossoms on them seemed to indicate that they were fruit trees, though they weren't nearly as big as those that were being tended and cared for. Likely the soil wasn't as deep here either.
Sill, it suited their needs. "OK," he said, setting down the basket. "This is the place. What do you think? You like it?"

"So what do I do first?" Food? Food can wait. She wants to learn!

"You can try to do it one at a time, or all at once, however you want," he said. "We'll get into more complex stuff later, but I want to get a basic idea of how strong your magic is first. OK?"

She’ll stand where he indicates and...just stands there. She doesn’t take any special stance, make any special moves, or even say any special words, she just looks from flame to flame with a frown of concentration.
For the first a small swirl of wind blows by it, but almost spreads it instead of putting it out. The second doesn’t look like she doesn’t look like anything happens, but then the fire suddenly winks out, smothered with an invisible layer of dense air. And for the last she uses air to throw dirt over the flame.
And then she looks at Lea with a little grin. Did she do good?

Lea watches as Jendayi follows his instructions. Three separate techniques, the last two more effective than the first. "Not bad," he says when Jendayi looks his way. "Almost thought you weren't going to get the first one; we'll need to work on that technique more later."
"For now..." He casts three more flames onto the dirt patch, these three a bit larger and brighter than the last ones. "Let's see how you do with these. They're a little stronger than the last ones. Same deal as before; put them out however you like with your magic. I know about how much power I'm using to create them, so once we get to ones you can't put out I'll know about how strong your base line magic is."

"For now though, we'll take a little breather," he says. "I think I've got a good estimate of your power now, so once you've rested a bit we'll see about trying something a little more skill-oriented."
no subject
“Skill or-netted? Like what?”
no subject
"Skill oriented," Le corrects somewhat automatically. "It means things geared toward testing your skill, rather than raw power. Like say, trying to hit a moving target, or put out the fire in a specific way. Things to help build control rather than strength."

"Huh...okay." She lies there, thinking about that. But then her tummy gurgles and she curls up. "Shhhhh!" She then glances a silly grin at Lea.

Lea chuckles at both Jendayi's tummy growling and the silly grin she shoots him. "Wanna take a quick snack break before we continue?", he asks. It's a bit early for lunch, but a little bit of something won't hurt.

He hands Jendayi one of the apples before sitting back down next to her and crunching into the other himself.

"All I can say is that it's a good thing that The Castle That Never Was was mostly stone and metal or we'd have been in trouble," he said. "You wouldn't believe how many sets of bed sheets I went through from doing magic in my sleep, and I was banned from Vexen's lab for a year after I accidentally incinerated half his research notes. Basically I was the reason the Organization couldn't have nice things."

"Which basically means that if I ever get sick like that around here, you'll probably be staying with Sam for a few days til I'm better," he says. "Won't do either of us any good if you burn yourself trying to help me."
You get all the pouty faces this round.
D'aaww pouty face.
"But," he said, "knowing that there's someone who can take care of you will be a load off my mind, so if I do get sick, I'll be able to get better as fast as possible."
Cutest pouty face
Re: Cutest pouty face
He pauses a moment before continuing. "Any particular reason why this has got you so worried?"

"Now that that's settled, you ready to get back to practicing?"

We can wrap this up with your next tag, I think, unless you want to continue it. :3
This feels like a good place to wrap it up.
