Another piece of the puzzle [Open]
Who: Devi and you
What: A girl settling into a new place
When: A day or two after her initial arrival
Where: Haven hub and Loft
CW: None.
--
Well, Devi had managed to survive the first couple of nights. She'd found a place to crash, had been shown and found both the Pantry and the Bar and was, over all, at ease. No use keeping her dander up until it was needed.
Currently, she sat in a booth in the Loft, she'd always liked high places and Haven had those to spare, with a drink in her hand and her boots propped up on the table. Having largely avoided the Mechs so far, Devi was aiming to get a gander at the other creatures that inhabited Haven.
After all, she was stuck here, wasn't she? Might as well learn what she could and bars always seemed the best place to catch the vibe of a new reality.

"How many worlds have you been to?" The other girl's offhand air wasn't lost on the adept, who chuffed good-naturedly as she pulled another tidbit from her order. "It actually kind of is, but I have a high tolerance for weird, which also helped a lot in the initial adjustment. And you can feel free to ask away about anything! I'm from the Northwest Territories, originally. Yellowknife. Moved across Canada a couple of times, but before this? 'Sfar as I went."

Devi nodded and busied herself with a sip while Sam spoke, crafted eyebrows arching a little in surprise at the answer. Sam had a comfort of her situation without that bothersome waver of unstable, narrower minds. It was refreshing.
It fell together that ... Sam was Canadian. Devi's lips quirked. Oh well, no offence meant to the upstanding janitorial staff of the Great White North at her earlier bit about their sports.
"Hellva place for the first stop." But it came with a lopsided, spreading smile. "An exact number would mean I kept count, but I can give you a ballpark figure at.." An eye narrowed in thought. "Nine? Ish? We'll go a solid between 8 and 10." Did Hell count as it's own world? Hmm.
"Time is fucked anyway, there's no point in keepin' count... says I who can't quite remember if I asked you before, How long have you been around? I dunno if it's the acclimation to weird, but not a lotta people settle as well as you seem to be."
fff later than late and so sorry
No offence meant? None taken.
"I know, right? From a parking lot in Manitoba to flat on my back on a street on the far side of space. And damn, man. No wonder you're as chill about it as you are! Where are you from? And time being fucked, I gotta ask, when? 2014, here. Came halfway through February, so now... Not exactly eight months." Sam brushed a hand over her hair, face falling into an expression of mild disbelief. "With that number out on the table, I could shit a brick, but would wager it's the acclimation to weird."
/hands you the bumperstick and the t-shirt c:
"2014?" Her eyebrows lifted a little and she laughed. "Oh, I'm always so glad to hear the human race survived another.. oh shit, 20 years. 20 years?" For all of Devi's acclimation to weird, and Sam was right, it was a proverbial ton, she hadn't really run across to many people that were from her kind of time line and for some reason, that 20 years hit her. She leaned back, a little wide eyed but glanced at her cup, huffed a 'Hmm' noise and took a drink.
Something else Devi was acclimated to was compartmentalizing. Aaaaaand done.
"Early 1994. San Jose, California. Well, I was born in Mexico but my parents immigrated. And eight months is nothing to laugh at, even standing next to 9 years. Surviving any amount of time is commendable."
\o/
Despite talking as much as she had, Sam had managed to put away most of the food garnishing her glass. She paused to pull the little burger from the stick supporting it, shrugging in concession. "Here, it hasn't been too difficult to do---but I've done it despite Dirge, which is a story in itself. We're in the perfect place for me to tell it, too, if you have half a mind to hear."
no subject
"I'm always interested in stories. I like seeing what other people's worlds and perspectives have to offer now that I know I'm not stuck with my own. But it's just San Francisco to me. We don't get as nearly worked up about it as people that live there," she said with a broad grin.
"And who's Robot Space Satan?" Because that just sounded... odd. And having met a Devil a few times, Devi's wary of what powers come with the title.

"Dirge, however, I have had plenty of personal experience with. More than I'd wish on anybody else, to be blunt about it. He's the only person I'd warn you away from here. Giant teal robot, turns into a jet, greedy bastard, tried to murder me, didn't do so well."
no subject
"I haven't heard anything, but I'm definitely interested. That whole explanation gives me a whole lot of questions." She frowned a little, eyes widening under a pinching brow. "Please tell me someone made a Skynet joke. Why would he want to murder you though?"
Not to undermine what Sam may or may not be able to do, but Devi didn't get the feelings that humans would really scale that high on the list of concerns from a 30 foot tall robot.
