Not a crowd

Who: The newly-arrived knitted doll, Sam, and possibly Subzero?
What: Welcome wagon!
Where: The Hub.
When: Not too long after this.
Warnings: Mild language?

The little knit construct was a curious thing. Sam had never heard of anything like it, outside of a few fairy-tales---the sort where almost anything could stand up and speak, if spoken to. Curious… and curiouser and curiouser in light of the conversations it (he) had had with others upon arriving. Jendayi’s lineage, Drift’s name; it was weird, if not weird enough to be worrisome. The doll himself seemed nice! Given his history (and a hell of a history it was, if he had been telling the truth) that made sense, as did the doll’s construction---stuffies were well-loved worldwide, and often protection as far as the kids who carried them were concerned, so a simple soft toy seemed like a natural repository for the good energies Kim Hunt had managed to muster.

God, but she wanted a word with that woman! Instead, it was what, wait at the Hub gateway for a face-to-face, picking over network posts and talking at the stray cats who had sauntered her way? Well…

With one cat butting its head against her ankle and another nearby, Sam concluded that that was alright.

The knitted doll had enjoyed its time with Subzero. It didn't know that robots came that big! Or . . . that sentient. But the encounter had felt very natural so the doll figured it must be okay, nothing unusual or alarming about it.

It had spent time with Subzero until the scientist needed to get back to his projects, and then the doll asked to be dropped off at The Hub. It had, after all, promised to meet another as soon as it could - Samantha Patchowski.

Sam had talked about personhood and names, and it had gotten the little doll thinking. It didn't have a name. Or if it did, it didn't know it. It supposed Kim must have called it something at some point - even though she was amnesiac herself for most of her life creating it, she had probably talked to it. Or something. The doll didn't really know because it'd not been sensate itself until Danielle pulled the lid off the crate it had been sent to her in.

It missed Danielle, and Sam and Kim. But they were safe and that was all that really mattered. The doll hadn't expected to survive the demons' furious, blazing attack. It still wasn't sure that it actually had. But it couldn't deny that it was here. Perhaps it had been summoned. It wasn't at all sure of this fact, but it hadn't ruled it out yet either.

In any case, it looked forward to meeting Sam. Maybe she'd even be able to help it choose a name for itself, since that seemed to be important to people.

Once dropped off, it rode around on its comm drone to see if it could spot Sam somewhere nearby.

The doll waved back readily. "Hi, Sam!" It reached down to pat the comm-drone for its attention. "That way, please."

With a hum, the comm-drone shifted trajectory, carrying its owner closer.

"Wow . . . " Most people of a size like the doll's might have been at least a little intimidated by the size of something like Bon Ron, but the doll just reached out little tube-knit fingers to touch a metal antler. "A robotic moose. Are those common here?"

Yeah, it could get to other things next. This was too fascinating to pass.

"Oh? Well, that's good. Not being alone is good. Anyway - " The doll shifted its attention to reach a hand to Sam. "Pleased to meet you, Samantha. Thank you for helping me."

"Um . . . help me figure out why I'm here, I guess. Though seeing the sights is a good start." Especially since it didn't sense any immediate dangers.
