Meet the Medic [Open Log]

Who: The city's medic and mechanic...and all those who want their injuries tended.
What: The city medic doing what he can for all the new arrivals who've just been through an explosion.
Where: Hospital, located in the Northwest of the city
When: Shortly after arrival.  Galos will bring everyone to the city, and show the injured to the hospital.  The good medic here will care for any who come in.  Don't worry, he can care for Cybertronians too.
Warnings: Only what your characters bring with them.

The hospital is quite large, located in the midst of various houses and apartments.  One side is clearly designed for the organic residence, with nice sliding doors opening into a foyer and waiting area.  Halls stretch off to the right to various exam rooms where the resident doctor and his apprentices can check on the sick.  Down another hall are hospital rooms for those who require an extended stay.

The other side is designed for the robotic residents.  The front part is a large garage, which leads to a waiting area.  Past that are repair bays with with tables, each repair bay is stocked with tools.  The mechanic teams range from human to Cybertronian.

Whether organic or robotic, all those who come to the hospital will see the Paian, the head medic and mechanic.

Paian looked to be nothing more than a normal human plucked out of some Victorian era, steampunk world.  Large green goggled hung around his neck and large leather gloves were tucked behind a wide belt.  There's nothing really fancy about his dress, he's dressed to work.  He's a big guy, and a no-nonsense doctor.  Those who come to see him may not his worried frown as he ushers them back to get settled where he can start to work to take care of those injuries.

[He shrugs] You can always be seen by an apprentice. Though that would require someone poking around your circuits. [Implying that he wouldn't have to if he treated her...?]

Getting to know a place is one thing, poking around patient files is something else. I'll show you around the place, you're welcome to inspect anything but the patient files.

[Optics narrow slightly. This just meant she'd have to take a more remote route to access those files. That's not impossible, just very very difficult to accomplish right now. But, if that's what it took to try and fill in the gaps about this place...

And what exactly was he implying with that?]

Fine. Then show me around.

"I don't make a habit of indebting myself to anyone." He huffed, not sure he saw any alternatives, really. "What do you mean, search the warehouse? You don't keep an inventory of your own stores of supplies?"

I'm Knock Out and I'm a medic myself. Aren't your hands a bit too small to treat a Cybertronian properly? [He leans over, grining.]

You know how people often says 'size doesn't matter'? They're lying.

Yes, quite. I did not know humans could live for so long, I thought Rose was the only special case. It's nice to meet you too.

Once? [Blurr will try to stand as still as he can...which isn't really saying much. It's hard for him not to move around so he's fidgeting with his hands instead.]
I think I landed on my head when I arrived here. Wouldn't be the first time it happened to me, though...

People change in time. I've gained things that have taken me beyond mere human. [There's no boasting in his voice, just a matter-of-fact tone.]

You're going to feel my hand on your helm, and then you're going to feel a warm sensation. That's normal, so stay still, all right?

[He'll wait for Blurr to acknowledge, or ask questions, before doing anything.]

[Jadewing is grateful for the padding. Decepticon medberths were never quite this comfortable. Of course the Decepticon medics were seldom too concerned with a patient's comfort, as long as they were functional. Plus, they had the general idea that if a mech had to suffer a bit as a consequence of fragging up and getting themselves hurt, they were less likely to repeat the same mistake in the future.

Annoying as it was, it was generally a pretty effective method.]

That was the general idea, yes.

[Might be a little sarcasm there. He knows what a brace is for, OK? Nothing personal though. He'll be less cranky when his wing is fixed.

Meanwhile, the warm water is doing its job, the brace melting away more quickly. Aside from the occasional sharp snap as bits of ice crack and break away. It's not too long before the majority of the brace is melted, except for the bit right around the wing joint, where the ice was thickest.]

Are you now? [Doesn't sound entirely convinced.]

[He raises a brow at Knock Out.] Luckily in this instance the phrase doesn't apply.

Is there something I can help you with?

"Oh, we keep an inventory of anything we produce, but the warehouse can end up with useful things that aren't so easy to make. My apprentices check in regularly to see if anything of use has come in recently."

Paian waved a dismissive hand, though. "Look, you'd not be indebted to me. What supplies would be needed would be minimal, and the time for repairs would be less than you're used to." He hesitated.

"And I'm afraid they'd not be as complete as usual either. There's something...unsettling the balance of this place, I'd be surprised if your ARS is working at all right now; bodies just aren't healing as they should." This...was clearly something that bothered him, a lot, though he was putting on a good face for it.

Gladly. [And he will. He'll show her around the facility, and not just the public areas. He doesn't have anything to hide.]

Something tells me, though, you're here for more than just a tour of the Hospital. What is it you're wanting? What kind of information are you looking for?

[She's taking special care to listen and note every place he shows her and everything he says. Blackarachnia's still a little suspicious despite his apparent openness.]

Are you sure you want to know the answer to that question.

[She glances over at Paian and debates with herself for a moment.]

I want to know what's going on here.

[At this point she gestures to some of the scuffs on her body and some minor abrasions. Nothing serious and all superficial.]

This should have fixed itself. Benefit of being a Transmetal. So, why hasn't it?

[The Maximal stops walking to really look at him.]

Where did you come from.

[He listens as she asks her questions....and nods approvingly.] You're smart. I like that.

I'll answer the easiest question first. I originally came from a planet called Earth. I've been here for around five hundred years now.

As for your...more difficult questions...I wish I knew. In the last couple weeks I've started to notice that people aren't recovering as they should be. I've the ability to heal people, and even that isn't working properly. I don't know why.

It also seems there are a number of people disappearing. It's not unusual for people to vanish, the Miasma is know to just...take people sometimes, but not this many so quickly. Or they could be off exploring. [He shrugs, the gesture saying he doesn't believe that's the case.]

[When the ice is thin enough he'll put the hose aside. and move the scaffolding out over Jadewing. Hey....at least he's not walking on you, Seeker. He lies down and will get to work chipping away the last of the ice.]

I'm afraid repairs aren't going to be entirely...complete. Something is...preventing healing and repairs to happen as they should. I will do my best to get things well enough for you to fly, okay?

Okay, interesting information about the warehouse but . . . whoa, wait, what?

"What do you mean, bodies aren't healing as they should? This is a medbay, isn't it?"

Paian gives Thundercracker a bit of a flat look. "It is, but as I said, something strange is happening in the city. No matter what I or any other medic does you're not going to be able to be fully repaired."

[Jadewing appreciates the not walking on him thing. Even a low-ranked Seeker like him has some dignity after all, and that's already been ruffled enough today by the rather ridiculous circumstances behind the injury.

He doesn't bother to attempt to look over he shoulder at the human's statement about the potential quality of his repairs. That's difficult for a Seeker even at the best of times; injured as he currently is next to impossible. The tone of his reply indicates the the medic has his attention, though.]

I don't care about the cosmetic damage. Just as long as everything's functional. Besides, you know what they say: if somebody didn't get a few new dents out of it, obviously nobody had any fun.

[It never occurred to him that the human might not know that saying. Decepticons tended to apply it to most everything, from fighting, to parties, to interfacing. Jadewing wasn't finding it as amusing as he usually did, but it did get a soft 'heh' out of him at least.]

How could anything prevent repairs from happening, though? I mean, short of blocking the way into the repair bay, or something.

Of course I'm smart otherwise I'd be like the rest of the idiots as a patient instead of a scientist.

[Beauty can only get this spider so far. Besides, she was Liege's initiate for a reason.]

You're from Earth. What was the year there when you left?

[As for the rest of his answers.No, she didn't believe the 'exploring' explanation either. There was always more to it then that in her experience.]

So it's not just us. Even people that have lived here for centuries aren't healing. Well slag.

Uh huh. yes, perhaps. One of my friend...acquaintances got hurt upon arriving here, I came to see what medical tools you have.

That they do, it's true. [And only now it occurs to Blurr that he might not have his gifts from the Firsforged with him. He will have to test them later.] Did you have to do something to gain them?

...okay. [He doesn't sounds too happy about that but he won't oppose.] Just don't touch the blue spike, please.

I will let you decide if Jade is able to fly. If he can, it'll hurt.

[It's not just the cosmetic he's talking about. He'll not say anything more about that, though, as he touches fingers to the Seeker's wing.]

Decepticon? [No judgement. Just guessing, and perhaps trying to get Jadewing to talk to distract him from the odd sensations.]

[And...they'll be odd. Warmth will seep into his armor, almost kind of tingling as it pulses into the Seeker's back. He'll feel his wing shift and move on it's own as it puts itself back into place. The connections restore themselves...and yet...when the sensations stop things aren't all well.]

That's all that can be done. [He says finally. He sounds...frustrated.] Any further attempts to finish the repairs will only make things worse again. [Prodding tools and welders would only damage connections that were not fully healed.]

Just because someone is a patient, doesn't mean they're an idiot. [Don't make him change his mind about you being smart.]

It was 1859 when I first ended up here.

[He shakes his head] Not just you new arrivals. I noticed it only a couple weeks ago, which means it's likely been building longer than that.

Perhaps you are. [He'll believe it when he sees it.]

We're well stocked with all medical supplies that might be needed.

...You need to know something before you go working on anyone, though.

[What's up HOSPITAL this dork's rolling in and immediately looking lost as all fuck. And totally dinged up but hey who wasn't a little bashed up lately?

And that's about it, Drift standing around looking confused, and probably looking for someone. Definitely looking for someone.]

I'm gonna say yeah, but only in robot mode. He doesn't trust that repair to hold up to transforming.

[The question of his allegiance prompts a brief, soft rumble of engine noise, half annoyed, half amused.]

Yeah. You'd think that the big, glaring, purple symbols would make it obvious, but apparently not. You wouldn't believe how many secure facilities Soundwave's gotten into by just turning into a tape deck, waiting somewhere obvious, and then letting some human carry him inside. You'd think they'd catch on after awhile...

[Jadewing wasn't about to comment on his thoughts of what that said about the general intelligence level of humans; not when one was busy working on him.

And speaking of which, his optics widened a bit at the strange sensations. Not that they were unpleasant- quite the opposite in fact; the warmth especially felt good after the cold ice- but it was ...weird. And totally not what he was expecting. How was the human even doing that?

But before he could voice that question, the sensations stopped, the warmth fading and the tingling giving way to the stiffness that usually accompanied recently repaired wing injuries. The human declared it as done as it was going to get and Jadewing frowned thoughtfully.]

Hmm... [He gingerly shifted his repaired wing as well as he could while still laying prone, testing the feel of the repairs as he waited for the human to move the scaffold back so he could sit up, which would be the real test. But the range of motion test produced only a few twinges, a far cry from what he had been dealing with previously; just having the wing lined up properly again took care of the wort of the issues. Jadewing wasn't sure he'd trust it for flying or transforming on though. Frag.]

It'll do. Just glad to be able to move with out feeling like someone was taking a thermal sword to my left side.

[pause]

What did you do back there? [Muchlike the medic, there was no accusation in Jadewing's question, just curiosity.] I mean, I was expecting repairs, with tools and slag, not... whatever that was.

Mn. One would think. Sounds like the people from the Earth you ended up on were pretty stupid. [Go ahead, Jadewing, rag on the humans, this one doesn't care.]

[He got the scaffolding out of the way so Jadewing could sit up, and was stepping down from it when the Seeker asked about what he'd done.] I healed you. I've got the ability to heal with a touch. But...something's wrong here, and it's not working as it should.

I intend to get to the bottom of things, though, and when I do, I'll make sure you're fully repaired.
